About Tracey Richter,LCPC

Therapy for adults in-person in Barrington, IL
and online across Illinois

Hi, I'm Tracey Richter

I'm a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who works with adults who have avoided emotions, and feel overwhelmed and out of balance. My goal is to help you stop feeling stressed and depressed and start helping you make progress towards your goals.

When It Comes To Infertility, I’ve Gone Through What Many Of My Clients Have Too

I have dealt with infertility issues and understand the agony and difficulty that brings to life and relationships. I know how frustrating it can be that life isn’t going the way you thought it would. Conceiving can seem so easy for everyone else and meanwhile, you feel like it’s impossible for you. It’s even more frustrating when your friends are getting pregnant and having kids naturally all around you. It’s like you’re one baby shower away from having a meltdown.

And it strains relationships. It can put such a heaviness on your relationship with your spouse with each of you having your own feelings and experiences. Sometimes it can be really hard to understand where the other person is coming from; you’re both riding a tough wave of emotions.

My own difficult experience with infertility has expanded my capacity to understand the human experience: what it takes to endure hard things manage that pain and get through them.

I Wanted To Become A Therapist Because Finding Mental Health Support Is Hard

Even before my experience with infertility, I knew that I wanted to help people who were struggling with mental wellness issues

It can feel so daunting to try to talk about what we’re going through. Oftentimes getting heard or validated from others is a struggle, especially if life is so hard you don’t even want to get out of bed or go to that social event. Sometimes family members don’t know how to help those in their family who have mental health issues and seek to blame or place bandaids on issues.

With all of the challenges we face in mental health, I knew I wanted to be someone who walked alongside people and helped them transform their lives.

I Have Compassion For People And Bring An Open, Non-judgemental Presence To Sessions

I have a natural ability to:

Help people identify what they are feeling.

Help people feel comfortable.

Collaborate with people to set goals and help them reach them.

Be flexible on the path of discovering what's going on.

People who know me often say that I am a good listener who can help people feel heard and understood which helps people feel seen and start to heal.

Helping People Is What I Look
Forward To Every Day

Being a Therapist is an honor

I love helping people become healthier and more empowered and watching them transform their lives. The most rewarding thing about being a therapist is celebrating when my client's make progress.

I am committed to helping you make progress towards your goals.

As A Therapist,
I Embrace The Following Philosophies

I believe that there is no shame in asking for help

I believe that transformation can happen when you ask for help

I believe that taking care of yourself is the most generous thing you can do for the world

I believe that we can do hard things like going to therapy and we can do them and live better for it

I believe that sometimes small steps in the right direction end up being the biggest steps in the end
